Mother's Day, May 11th, Quinn's pick

The Philharmonic House of Design

Remember Mom this weekend with something just for her. The Philharmonic House of Design is still happening and it's a great day of discovery plus a fun boutique, café and lectures. Or sashay on over to the Honda Center to hear Michael Bublé sing. For a relaxing brunch try 21 Oceanfront, Sapphire, Palm Terrace and any of the Culinary Adventure restaurants. Or head to Laguna for a spa getaway at the Surf and Sand Resort, The Balboa Bay Club & Resort or my favorite place the St. Regis Spa Gaucin and truly indulge. Heavenly!!! Learn more>

Kids in the Hall & RENT, May 8th, 13th - 15th, David's pick
The Grove of Anaheim has some awesome events this week. It all starts off with one of my favorite comedy acts from the late 80's & early 90's, Kids in the Hall. They will be performing some new stuff and all their classic material this Thursday night. Also, RENT will be in town next Tuesday through Thursday. RENT is a phenomenon that transformed how a generation feels about musicals. It's the theatrical experience that changed Broadway forever, and inspired a major motion picture. Learn more>

Ipanema Exotic Car Event, May 10th, Quinn's pick

Is it the rare Ferrari Enzo in red that piques your desire? Nobody will be able to avert their eyes from the first annual Ipanema Exotic Car Show as Concours Motorcars kicks off its official launch on Saturday, May 10. The live Brazilian sounds of the Paul Ingram Quartet will create a lustrous canvas upon which a host of seemingly unattainable collectable automobiles will be displayed. Invited guests will indulge in the culinary temptations of Tommy Bahama Café complemented by signature Belvedere Vodka Ipanema martinis, Glenmorangie and Ardbeg Malt Scotch Whisky. Learn more>

Cross the threshold of disbelief and be drawn into a world where artistry and theatre converge, and where impossibility and inspiration collide. Award-winning illusionists Kevin and Cindy Spencer present a high-tech stage show replete with dazzling special effects, puzzling feats of agility and cutting-edge illusions that are sure to keep your family on the edge of their seats! Tradition by Pascal has been serving up superior French cuisine in Newport Beach for many years, so if you are looking for French cuisine in the OC, this is the place to go. When we arrived Sunday evening around 5pm (btw- no corking fee on Sunday) the restaurant was completely empty, we were shocked but we loved it. It's not that often that you have an entire staff focusing on just your meal at a fine dining establishment. To start our dinner off we ordered the Endive Salad and some Escargot. The salad consisted of both red and yellow endive lettuce with a sweet mustard dressing, accompanied with toasted walnuts and pear confit; it was excellent. The escargot was prepared with roasted pine nuts and served in drawn garlic butter. This escargot dish was first-rate and it got my taste buds going for our main course. After these starters, we noticed more customers arriving - Oh well, nothing last forever. For the main course we ordered the grilled Prime Top Sirloin and the Sea Bass au Thyme (a house specialty). The top sirloin was cooked perfectly with sautéed wild mushrooms and a green peppercorn brandy sauce accompanied with potato gratin. Their house specialty, the Sea Bass au Thyme, was a knock-out. This dish was superb and by far the highlight of the meal. The sea bass is pretty straight forward baked sea bass with a thyme crust and it was marvelous.

Great French cuisine is hard to come by here in the OC and Tradition by Pascal is the crème de la crème. We had a great dining experience, we were very impressed and we know you will be too.
