 Trail Information

Full Review: There's no shortage of spectacular ocean views on the coastal side of the Santa Monica Mountains. But this particular view, tucked behind an exclusive Malibu neighborhood, stands out. Maybe it's because there's so little foot traffic, even on weekends. Maybe it's the combination of secluded canyon and wide open hilltop trails. Or maybe it's just that by the time you climb to the uppermost ridge, delirium has distorted your vision and exaggerated the natural beauty. Regardless, it's a sight worth climbing for.

Set out on the Zuma Canyon Trail, which leads you into the chaparral-dense canyon. Stay on this trail, ignoring all splits to the left. In about half a mile you'll reach the turnoff for the Ocean View Trail - keep on walking. At the next junction, turn right to start climbing the Canyon View Trail. This takes you up and up and up, eventually flattening out and curving toward the ocean. When you reach the wide fire road, turn right, then right again to take the Ocean View Trail down to where it intersects Zuma Canyon. At the bottom, a left turn points you toward the parking lot.
