Trail Information
Full Review: It's a warm weekday evening in the South Bay, an hour or
so before sunset. In your backpack: a baguette, a hunk of cheese, a
nectarine, some water. You set off down the trail just as the first signs of
pink are creeping up the horizon, and end up at the top of a hill, under
cover of pines, overlooking the Pacific. This just might be the most perfect
picnic spot in all of L.A.
The trail starts just past the metal gate that marks Crenshaw's dead end.
Walk downhill until you reach a grove of pepper trees, then follow the fire
road as it loops to the right and continues its descent.
When you see an odd patch of planted pines up on the left, look for the path
that climbs up to them. Take it to the clearing, where you can look out onto
Santa Catalina Island and beyond. This is the tip of the Palos Verdes
peninsula. After dinner, retrace your steps.
