Trail Information
Full Review: It's not the prettiest body
of water in Southern California. And it's certainly not the most natural.
But it's as convenient a shoreline as you could hope to find if you live in
the San Gabriel Valley. If you pack a picnic and plant yourself under a
trailside maple or oak, a trip to Puddingstone could even qualify as a very
pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
If you parked at the park 'n ride, walk into the park on Via Verde Rd. and
turn left on Eucalyptus Rd., cutting right along the edge of Picnic Valley.
If you drove inside the park, walk across Picnic Valley from the parking lot
and look for a green bridge at the edge of the reservoir.
Cross the bridge and follow the paved path along the east shore, looking
across to the swimming beach (open seasonally) and the boat rental dock.
Keep to the path until it starts to leave the shoreline. This is your
turnaround point.
When you cross the green bridge again, turn right, walking toward the
swimming beach. At the far end of the south shore parking lot you'll find a
dirt path leading up a hill. Take this trail to the top of the hill for a
view of the other side of the reservoir. Walk back down Eucalyptus Rd. to
return to your car.
