Trail Information
Full Review: If it was possible to
somehow digitally edit out the graffiti from your field of vision, this hike
would be a truly amazing escape from the nearby metropolis. As it stands,
however, it can only be called somewhat amazing. Still not a bad rating,
considering that residents of the Pacific Palisades and north Santa Monica
can drive to the trailhead from home in under ten minutes. The directions
couldn't be simpler: Follow the main trail through the willows and scrub
(watch out the for poison oak, which is plentiful); turn left at the post
that says "trail," then right at the post that says "waterfall." You can
walk up the creek bed or take the high road up along it edge. Either way,
you'll end up at a pile of boulders that you must scramble over to reach the
falls.
Use the green rope to pull yourself up over the set of rocks that towers
overhead. A few steps later you'll arrive at your destination: a mossy wall
with water trickling or pouring (depending on the season) down its sides.
Keep an eye out for water snakes - they won't bite, they're just fun to
watch slither between the rocks. Take a cue from them and splash around a
bit, then retrace your steps to your car.
