Trail Information
Full Review: The combination of
mountains, ocean and desert is what makes the LA wilderness unique. And
there may be no better place to see it all come together than Zuma Canyon,
where you climb along a mountain ridge with peek-a-boo ocean views before
dropping down into a canyon with vegetation that ranges from shrubs and
yuccas to willows and ferns.
From the north end of the parking lot, start down the Zuma Canyon Trail.
Soon you'll reach the junction with the Zuma Loop Trail. Take it to the
left. You'll climb up along a ridge, keeping to the left at the next
junction, which loops around a shortcut trail before starting its descent.
Be sure to look behind you every once in a while to catch occasional
glimpses of the Pacific.
When the trail dips back down into the canyon, turn right to reconnect with
the Zuma Canyon Trail. Turn left at the Scenic Trail, which quickly returns
you to Zuma Canyon. Keep to the canyon trail for the rest of the hike. It
takes you back to the parking lot.
